SCHOLARSHIPS

MYRTLE SUCKOW COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP

 A one-time scholarship in the amount of $300.00, will be awarded each year to a qualifying student, or withheld in the event there are none.

 

CRITERIA
  • He/she must be a piano/instrumental student of an active teacher and studied with him/her for a minimum of 6 months.

 

  • He/she must be accepted by the school of music with the intention of being a Music Major.

 

  • He/she must submit to the NSMTA President by May 1st an application (found below), a scholastic transcript, and teacher recommendation.

 

  • He/she must submit verified Senior Rally scores from the current year.  A written theory test and practical audition for a judge and/or NSMTA committee is required in lieu of Rally scores. 

                  

The audition will include:
  1. Scales, arpeggios, basic chords:  M, m, d, A.

  2. Applied technique

  3. Piano students perform from memory, representative literature from 3 of the 4 music periods.  Instrumentalists perform 3 contrasting pieces.

 

Decision will be made by NSMTA committee and/or auditioning judge.

HYMN PLAYING FESTIVAL
TECLA WILLIAMS CAMP SCHOLARSHIP

Two scholarships in the amount of $250 each will be awarded each year to qualifying students or withheld in the event there are none.

 

CRITERIA
  • He/she must be a piano/instrumental student of an active teacher and studied with him/her for a minimum of 6 months.

 

  • Eligibility is restricted to two scholarships per student applicants, one to a junior high student and one to a senior high student.

 

  • He/she must submit an application, letter of intent and teacher recommendation to the NSMTA President by May 1st. Sample form is available below.

 

  • A written theory test and practical audition for the NSMTA board is required in lieu of Rally scores.

 
Audition will include:
  1. Scales, arpeggios, chords

  2. Piano and vocal students perform by memory literature from 3 of the 4 music  periods.  Instrumental students perform 2 contrasting pieces.
